What's a treasure

Every treasure has a story.

It's something you make, craft, or dedicate — small enough to fit in a pocket, meaningful enough to send into the world. Give it a name, give it a story, hide it where someone might find it.

How it works.

The travel loop, in four beats. Making and hiding traveling treasures is a fun, creative way to spend your time.

1Make a treasure

Make a treasure

Paint, craft, or dedicate something with a story — a painted rock, a handmade charm, a toy with a note.

2Place it

Place it

Leave it somewhere a stranger might find it or hide it and mark the spot on the map.

3Watch it travel

Watch it travel

Get notifications when it's found, carried to a new place, or hidden again in another city.

4Find one yourself

Find one yourself

Open the map, pick one up, carry it on your next trip, and hide it for the next person.

Two ways to place a treasure

Hide and seek

Tuck it away in a clever spot and mark it on the map. Only players with the app and your location hints will be able to track it down.

In plain sight

Leave it out in the open — on a bench, a windowsill, a café shelf. Anyone walking by could be the lucky one to spot it by accident.

Track your painted rocks on their journey

Track your painted rocks on their journey

GeoTraders is perfect for tracking where your painted rocks end up. Just write the "www.geotraders.app" website name and the unique 6-character code on the stone. Whoever finds it will know what to do — and you'll get a notification when they do.

In the wild

Real places. Real hides. Real treasures.

Treasures can be placed out in the open for someone to stumble upon, or tucked away in a clever hiding spot — both work, both are part of the game.

Spotted a nice place but didn't bring a treasure?

No problem. Write down a code on a stone or a piece of wood. Someone can still find it, and you've marked the spot on the map.

Why us

Why GeoTraders.

Real treasures, real journeys

Real, personal treasures moving through real places — handmade, crafted, or dedicated, each with a story behind it, sent out into the world for someone else to find.

Every treasure has a story

Placers give their treasures names and backstories. Finders add a new chapter every time they carry one to a new city or hide it somewhere new.

Treasures cross cities, countries, continents

A treasure made in your town can end up on the other side of the world. Watch yours go to places you have never been — yours might travel further than you.

A growing community

Built city by city, one hider and finder at a time. Bring it to your neighbourhood and be one of the first players where you live.

Who's it for

For everyone who likes finding and hiding things.

Surveyor's Compass

Hiders, finders, weekend walkers, travellers — there is a place here for all of them.

FAQ

Questions.

I found a treasure — what should I do?
First, get the app if you don't have it yet. Then enter the code printed on the treasure to log your find and see its story so far. From there, carry it on your next trip and hide it somewhere new, or hide it nearby again — either way, you're adding a new chapter to its journey. See the full guide on the blog.
What types of treasures are there in GeoTraders?
Two kinds. Hide-and-seek treasures are tucked away in clever spots — only players with the app and the location hints can track them down. The second type are public treasures - they are left out in the open on a bench, windowsill, or café shelf, where anyone passing by could spot them by accident.
How is this different from TravelBugs and GeoKrety?
GeoTraders treasures are not attached to caches — they can be placed at any suitable location: tucked under a bench, left on a windowsill, hidden in a tree hollow, or dropped into a geocache if you want. Every treasure carries a story that grows as it moves from finder to finder.
What if no one's playing in my city?
Start it. Every active city began with one person hiding their first treasure — be that person where you live.
Do I have to make my own treasures?
It is not required. You can just find treasures hidden by others, carry them on your travels, and hide them again for the next finder.
Can I follow my treasure?
Yes. You get notifications when someone finds it, takes it on a trip, or hides it in a new city.
What if my treasure goes missing?
It can be marked lost. Its story and journey so far stay in the app, even if the treasure itself is gone.
Is it kid-friendly?
Yes — designed for casual family use. Painting rocks, hiding little gifts, and tracking where they go is a great weekend activity.
Is GeoTraders free?
Yes — fully free. No subscriptions, no premium tier, no in-app purchases.
